| My parents
are odd people. Good, caring, intelligent people, but odd nonetheless.
There's just no getting around it.
I won't go into too many details, but I will tell you about the recent behavior which I find somewhat disturbing. My parents have both retired (quite young) and have moved down to Kissimmee, Florida. For anyone who doesn't know where Kissimmee is, I'll just give you an idea of where they are - 3.2 miles from the entrance ot DisneyWorld. See, my parents are Disney fanatics, and have been for as long as I can remember.
So they spend their days going to water parks, going to the Magic Kingdom, going to Epcot, going to one of the parks just for one show, or even going ONLY for an ice cream! This one place in the Magic Kingdom has a unique Pineapple ice cream and a Pineapple/Vanilla mix, and they have actually gone to the park just to get ice cream from that place. With their annual passes, they can come and go as they please, and even park for free. When they're not doing the Disney thing, they tend to spend their time watching television, browsing the Web, and emailing friends and relatives (though I think I get more email from them than anyone else).
Needless to say, I am somewhat more sane with regard to the whole Disney thing. I am slightly fond of Goofy, but aside from that, it can be a bit much. I don't know how they continue to tolerate it.
Below are three pictures of my parents, taken on the day of their wedding, taken circa 1996 in the Magic Kingdom, and taken in the spring of 1999 with Mickey.
Yes, I know they're weird. But they have many more good points than bad. In fact, when we're not shoved together for long periods of time, we actually get along quite well, and we tend to get along more as friends than as parents/child.
While they live in Florida, I am living in our house in Staten Island. It's a good deal for everyone.
